Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, an APC chieftain in Osun State, criticized the just-concluded local government elections in the state, calling it a waste of taxpayers’ money. He argued that the election was illegal and pointless due to the reinstatement of APC council chairmen by the Court of Appeal in Akure, who were dismissed earlier. Oyintiloye further mentioned that the state government would be held accountable for the funds spent on the election.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to release the monthly local government allocations to the reinstated APC chairmen, so they could implement developmental projects in their councils, which had been neglected since 2022. Oyintiloye noted that, with less than nine months left in their tenure, the allocation would help the chairmen accelerate grassroots development.
In addition to these concerns, Oyintiloye praised the professionalism of the Inspector-General of Police in handling security matters and addressing abuse of power in Osun State. He also commended the reinstated chairmen for returning to work despite the opposition’s efforts to intimidate them and called on local government staff to resume their duties in order to contribute to the development of their communities.
Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke had urged caution regarding the resumption of the newly elected chairmen, advising them not to return to their offices immediately to avoid clashes. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also reinforced a directive that local government workers should not return to work until further notice, citing concerns over their safety.
