In the recent local government elections in Imo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured all 27 chairmanship and 305 councillorship seats. Charles Ejiogu, chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), confirmed this outcome during a press briefing in Owerri.
However, the elections have been met with criticism from the National Youth Alliance (NYA), which called the process a “charade” and an affront to democracy. The group accused ISIEC of collusion with the APC, alleging that many voters were disenfranchised due to the late arrival of electoral materials and the absence of commission staff in several areas. They claimed that over 250 wards faced significant obstacles that hindered fair voting.
