The National Union of Air Transport Employees and the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria on Monday shut down the operations of Arik Air over alleged non-payment of salaries.
Among the demands of the unions are payment of outstanding salaries arrears, signing of conditions of service, remittance of pension, tax, and statutory deductions to the appropriate authorities.
The union alleged that Arik Air placed 90 percent of the workforce on compulsory leave, They also said they have not paid their staffs Salaries since April after coupled with other anti-labor practices.
The union said their strike will continue indefinitely until their demand is met by Arik management.
