Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taofeek Lagbaja, emphasized that the Nigerian Army’s enlistment procedures prioritize the competence of candidates, dispelling the myth that connections or “godfathers” are necessary for recruitment. Speaking in Asaba, he urged youths aged 18 to 22 in Delta State to participate in the ongoing recruitment drive.

Brigadier General Witto Nzidee, representing Lagbaja, encouraged young individuals to register online, assuring them that anyone fit for service will be recruited. He highlighted that some regions, particularly in the Southeast and South-South, failed to meet their recruitment quotas in previous exercises, stressing the need for awareness among local youths.

Nzidee noted that it’s vital for Delta State to utilize its recruitment quota, as underperformance could lead to other states filling those positions. Brigadier General Unachukwu Ugochukwu, commander of the 63 Brigade in Asaba, echoed these sentiments, urging qualified youths to seize this opportunity for employment.
