Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that it is too late for him to acquire the character and integrity he has lacked since birth.
Olayinka was responding to a statement from the Atiku Media Office, which claimed that concerns over character influenced the rejection of the PDP committee’s recommendation for a vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
According to Olayinka, Atiku is not known for integrity and character, a sentiment allegedly echoed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his book My Watch.
He recalled that one of the reasons Wike initially rejected Atiku’s offer to be his running mate was due to concerns over his credibility.
He further accused Atiku of disregarding the PDP committee’s decision after initially committing to abide by it.
Mocking Atiku’s recent emphasis on character, Olayinka pointed out that Obasanjo once described him as a “blatant and shameless liar.”
He cited excerpts from My Watch, where Obasanjo allegedly criticized Atiku’s background, corruption tendencies, and lack of transparency.
Olayinka contrasted Atiku with Wike, stating that Wike is open about his positions and does not delete statements or shift stances for political convenience.
He urged Atiku to embrace honesty, especially at his age, instead of focusing solely on his presidential ambitions.
