The Bauchi State Government has committed to urgent relief efforts for communities impacted by recent severe flooding. The floods, exacerbated by heavy rainfall, have resulted in at least 24 fatalities, with the Bauchi North Senatorial District being particularly hard hit.
A special committee led by the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kawule, is assessing the damage in Gamawa Local Government Area, a known flood-prone area. The committee, which includes officials from the State Emergency Management Authority (SEMA) and other relevant bodies, was formed following a State Executive Council meeting aimed at addressing the crisis promptly.
The government has pledged swift action to address the needs of affected residents. Additionally, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Ibrahim Galadima, has promised to prioritize road repairs in flood-damaged areas to alleviate the suffering of the Gamawa community.
Gamawa Local Government Chairman, Ahmed Madaki Gololo, expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for deploying a special team to evaluate the situation. He reported that the floods have claimed over 10 lives in Gamawa alone and displaced thousands. Engineers from the Ministry of Works have already assessed critical roads like the Gamawa-Udubo and Gamawa-Alagarno routes, with government intervention expected soon.
