Bode George’s account of his fallout with Nyesom Wike sheds light on the deep internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election.
According to George, his initial support for Wike was motivated by his opposition to the perceived injustice of the party’s zoning arrangements, where key positions were concentrated in the northern region.
This disagreement, he suggests, was a key factor in the party’s crisis, especially following the 2022 national convention.
However, George’s alliance with Wike was short-lived. The turning point came when he realized that Wike and his group were considering supporting Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). George’s disillusionment with this move was rooted in his knowledge of Tinubu’s political style, especially given Tinubu’s influence in Lagos state, where George had significant experience.
This betrayal led him to break away from Wike and distance himself from the group’s intentions.
