It is no longer news that the harsh effects of Covid-19 and the situation report generally in Nigeria is marked by hunger and a hike in the prices of food items in Nigeria.
As part of measures from the Buhari-led administration to cushion and lessen the high cost of food prices in the country. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the release of foodstuffs from the national reserves to tackle the current high food prices in Nigeria.
The President made this known in a tweet shared on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday, September 3. President Buhari expressed concern over what he described as the pain of an ordinary Nigerian.
The president went on to note that talks have begun with food producers associations and groups to tackle the exploitative behaviour by middlemen which is one of the factors responsible for the high food prices.
He said his government is very mindful of the challenge of high food prices at a time when the economy is slow due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Buhari also reassured Nigerians that the government is doing everything to bring down the prices of food items across the country.
