The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has denounced the recently changed Edo State pension law for governors and deputy governors, which now includes speakers and deputy speakers of the house of assembly, calling it anti-people and backwards-looking.
The chairman of CRP, Dr. Samson Isibor, referred to the 7th assembly as colorless and accused it of failing to pass legislation that would benefit the populace in remarks made to journalists in Benin City on Tuesday.
Isibor promised to organize a protest if the governor puts the measure into law, despite the fact that it has not yet been passed into law.
He said, “It is not appropriate. It is inconceivable that a governor and his allies are now giving pensions to themselves in this material moment when people are hurting and mourning. We will urge the people of Edo State to demonstrate against the governor because it is uncalled for if the governor passes that measure into law.
“What has the governor accomplished for the people that he is now giving them new funds?
“People are bemoaning the lack of roads, lights, and medical facilities. What does he say to us? While other governors are assisting their populations, ours is not.
He is not a governor who listens. He never paid attention to their cries. The farmers are complaining about not being able to access their farms, and our governor only pays attention to how to cut the cake and make sure our money is taken away, not how the population can eat three square meals a day.
“We did not elect him to come to carry away our patrimony in this state, we have suffered enough, and if he signs that thing, we will protest against it because it is an anti-masses bill,” Isibor remarked in reference to the previous house of Assembly.
They were toothless bulldogs, we don’t take them seriously, they weren’t there for the people, they went there to be yes men so they could get their own piece of the cake, so don’t worry about them.
