The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) in Ogun State has accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of worsening the state’s electricity crisis and criticized his handling of infrastructure projects, particularly road construction.

CUPP’s state chairman, Dr. Femi Sholuade, urged the governor to explore alternative power sources, such as solar energy or independent power projects, to alleviate the state’s power supply issues and boost its economy.

Sholuade also alleged corruption in the awarding of road contracts, claiming that unqualified contractors were benefiting at the expense of the state’s development.

In response, Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Abiodun, dismissed CUPP’s claims as politically motivated and baseless.

He accused CUPP members of fabricating falsehoods and seeking relevance through exaggerated allegations. Akinmade defended the governor’s achievements, including significant investments in infrastructure and security, and highlighted recent efforts to improve electricity distribution in the state.

He pointed to the establishment of the Ogun Electricity Market (OGEM), aimed at enhancing the state’s power supply through private sector involvement and deregulation.
