Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, has criticized Nigeria’s democracy on International Democracy Day, citing severe setbacks and leadership failures.
In his statement, Obi highlighted systemic corruption, high insecurity, restricted freedom of speech, escalating poverty, and widespread hunger as major issues plaguing the country.
He called for political leaders to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey and work towards a system where every Nigerian has a voice, regardless of their background.
According to Obi, Nigeria’s democratic ideals are eroding, and the nation’s performance in democratic measures remains notably poor.
