Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu Forgives Governor Obaseki, Calls For Internal Party Democracy

Newsie Events:–

The court-reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has announced that he has forgiven Governor Godwin Obaseki for marginalizing him despite his sacrifices and loyalty.

Shaibu made this statement while speaking to journalists after meeting with Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), at the party headquarters in Abuja.

He emphasized that everyone behaves differently, and only God is perfect.

The Deputy Governor explained that he forgave Obaseki because of the divine commandment to love one’s neighbor as oneself, which he believes would bring peace to the world if followed.

“I gave everything to support him for the state’s sake. I even forfeited many of my official entitlements to avoid conflict. For both terms, I didn’t apply for my initial earnings or other official benefits. I limited myself to my official salary.”

Shaibu, who rejoined the APC last Saturday, also criticized the state government for demanding the return of 22 official vehicles. He clarified that, except for one Jeep provided by the governor in their administration’s third year, all the vehicles belong to him.

He stressed the importance of internal party democracy for stabilizing the country’s fledgling democracy and pointed out that the lack of such democracy is the main cause of leadership crises, with politicians often prioritizing their interests over the majority’s wishes.

Regarding the upcoming Edo State governorship election, Shaibu expressed confidence that the APC candidate would win.
