In the lead-up to the Edo governorship election, Anugbum Onuoha, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), has challenged political parties to present evidence questioning his competence. Responding to concerns, particularly from the Edo PDP chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, regarding his ties to Nyesom Wike, Onuoha emphasized his qualifications, including his background as an Associate Professor of Law and prior experience as an electoral commissioner in Rivers State.
Onuoha stated that his familial connection to Wike should not overshadow his professional capabilities, asserting that he has been confirmed and appointed through the proper channels. He urged the focus to shift from personal ties to the integrity of the election process itself, with assurances from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the election will be conducted transparently.
