The court ruling in favor of Emir Sanusi II has sparked widespread celebrations in Kano. On Friday afternoon, hundreds of residents took to the streets to rejoice, causing a temporary traffic gridlock, especially around the old city area.
The celebration was not limited to men; women in purdah were also part of the jubilant crowd. Tricycle operators added to the excitement, performing stunts and drawing the attention of passersby. The Appeal Court ruling, which favored Sanusi II, declared that the legal dispute over the Kano Emirate should fall under the jurisdiction of the state High Court, not the Federal High Court.
This decision is a significant affirmation of Sanusi’s position as Emir, marking a victory for both the legal framework and the Emir’s supporters.
