Former Senate Leader Mohammed Ali Ndume has urged the Federal Government to provide immediate support for victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State. Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, emphasized that the damage caused by the flood is beyond the state government’s capacity to manage alone. He called for a coordinated response from the federal government, development partners, and other agencies to aid the affected residents.
Ndume highlighted the severe impact of the flood, including the temporary closure of the University of Maiduguri and the submersion of homes, institutions, and businesses. He warned that the situation could worsen without prompt federal intervention and appealed to international partners and goodwill individuals to assist in preventing a greater humanitarian crisis. The Borno State government has reported that the collapse of Alau Dam has exacerbated the flooding, leading to urgent evacuation orders for residents along the river banks.
