Femi Falana, a prominent human rights activist and lawyer, has called on the Federal Government to compensate the families of those who lost their lives in recent stampedes across Nigeria.
These stampedes occurred during the distribution of palliatives in Ibadan, Anambra, and Abuja, where over 65 people were reported dead.
Speaking at a program in Akure, Falana attributed the tragic incidents to the failure of the Nigeria Police to provide adequate security during these events. He emphasized that it was not poverty, but rather the lack of proper security measures, that led to the loss of lives.
He also praised Ondo State for its proactive approach to security, notably through the establishment of the Amotekun security network under Governor Akeredolu’s leadership.
