Dele Farotimi, an activist lawyer, has defended the allegations he made against Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), in his book Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.
Farotimi reiterated that he has never lied about anyone, emphasizing that everything he says is the truth. Addressing journalists after his release from the Ekiti State Correctional Centre, Farotimi explained that his activism is driven by the belief that truth is the only weapon to combat the injustices in Nigeria.
He also clarified that if he is unsure about something, he would admit it rather than make false claims.
Farotimi had been arrested earlier in December for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola. A magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti granted him bail on Friday, setting the conditions at N30 million, with two sureties, one of whom must own property. He was also ordered to submit his passport and refrain from granting media interviews while out on bail.
