FBI Wanted Abba Kyari Indicted by Probe Panel, To Face Disciplinary Committee

Newsie Events Media:

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba has sent the Joseph Egbunike-led panel’s report on Abba Kyari’s alleged role in the $1.1million fraud perpetrated by Ramon Olorunwa Abass, also known as Hushppi, an Instagram influencer, and four others, to Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Police Service Commission (PSC).
According to Punch, the report, in which Kyari is indicted, was received by the AGF and the PSC last week.

On August 26, the Special Investigation Panel led by Joseph Egbunike, a Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP), had submitted its report, which includes testimonies from Kyari and other persons and groups linked to the matter.
On June 25, Andrew Innocenti, a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent, filed a document titled ‘Criminal Complaint By Telephone or Other Reliable Electronic Means’ at the United States District Court for the Central District of California, alleging that Hushpuppi contracted Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, to detain Chibuzo Vincent, a co-conspirator, for threatening to expose the alleged $1.1million fraud committed against a Qatari business person.
In the document, Innocenti claimed Hushpuppi paid $20,600 into a bank account provided by Kyari. This prompted the court to order that Kyari be detained for 10 days.
Following the indictment, the PSC suspended Kyari from service on July 31. He also appeared before a probe panel where he reportedly denied any wrongdoing.

However, while giving an update on the case on Saturday, a senior police officer said the IG had directed that Kyari be queried and then referred to the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) which handles cases of misconduct and unprofessional acts by senior officers.
The FDC is expected to send its recommendations to the PSC, which will determine Kyari’s fate.

It was also gathered that the panel set up by the FDC to study available documents related to Kyari’s indictment will soon complete its investigation and submit its findings to the PSC.
“The commission and the AGF got the police report last week, but there is nothing for us to do at the moment. The IG has directed that Kyari be queried. After answering the query, the matter would go to the Force Disciplinary Committee, which would make recommendations. The recommendations from the FDC would come to the Police Service Commission and this would form the basis of the commission’s decision,” a source said.
Frank Mba, Nigeria Police Force’s spokesperson, promised to provide the status of the case when contacted, but had not responded to further questions as of press time.
