The federal government has given a strict warning against the “second wave of Covid-19 pandemic” which it said will be very hard on the economy of the country and lives.
Dr. Sani Aliyu who is the coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 said this while speaking at a briefing on Monday, August 3.
He said that positive cases of COVID-19 dropped by 2,000 in July, further stating that the number of tests carried out across the country increased by 40,000 in just one month. It also added that a total of 287,532 COVID-19 tests have been carried out so far in Nigeria.
Aliyu urged businesses that are reopening to align themselves to govt efforts by establishing and practising COVID-19-sensitive business precautionary measures.
“We eventually have to reopen, but we can only do so if we reopen safely. It is quite clear, as we can see from the other parts of the world, that certain countries are now going back into lockdown because of the pandemic coming back, otherwise called recrudescence or what we call a second wave.”
Dr Sani also said Nigeria cannot afford another surge of the coronavirus, as it will destabilise the already marred economy and lead to a lot of deaths.
