Flooding in Jigawa state has resulted in the deaths of 16 individuals and displacement of 3,838 people across 10 local governments. The floods also destroyed 2,744 hectares of farmland.
Dr. Haruna Mairiga, Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), reported that many displaced individuals are currently sheltered in primary schools or with relatives.
The affected local governments include Buji, Kafin Hausa, Auyo, Hadejia, Birniwa, Gwaram, Malam Madori, Garki, Taura, Suletankarkar, Kaugama, and Dutse. The government is working to provide aid to those affected, and more rain is anticipated during the season.
