Over 70 communities in Kogi State have been submerged by flooding, according to Deputy Governor Joel Salifu. Following an inspection of the Edeha community, he stated that the scale of the flooding exceeds the state government’s capacity to manage, despite their proactive measures.
Salifu, who also chairs the 2024 Kogi State Flood Disaster Response Committee, highlighted that while the extent of property and farmland damage is still being assessed, no lives have been reported lost so far. Many residents have relocated to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps established by the government.
Chief Abdullahi Isah of Edeha confirmed the widespread flooding and expressed gratitude for the government’s response that has helped save lives and property. He noted that many affected individuals have moved to higher ground. The paramount ruler, Saidu Akawu-Salihu, added that various communities, including Gaduma, Gabor, and Ikumo, are also under water.
