Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured residents that the ongoing political turmoil will ultimately strengthen them rather than weaken them.
Speaking at his private residence in Port Harcourt during an Eid-el-Fitr gathering with Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Fubara encouraged perseverance and faith.
“This season symbolizes love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made great sacrifices through your prayers,” he stated. “As Christians, we believe that every challenge serves a purpose, and I am convinced this situation is leading us toward something greater.”
According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to justice and inclusivity, assuring the Muslim community that their concerns would be addressed once political stability is restored.
He also urged his supporters to reject provocations aimed at inciting violence, emphasizing the importance of patience and peace. “Those seeking to destabilize Rivers State want to create chaos and disrupt livelihoods. We will not allow that. Our focus remains on maintaining peace and respecting the rule of law to ensure Rivers remains a model for others in Nigeria.”
Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, representing the Muslim Ummah, pledged unwavering support for Fubara, highlighting his inclusive leadership approach. He contrasted Fubara’s administration with the previous one, which declared Rivers a fully Christian state, praising his commitment to religious harmony.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s full authority, emphasizing that despite the political crisis, the governor has continued to lead effectively.
