In a recent announcement, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, declared the creation of two new emirates and five new chiefdoms as part of efforts to strengthen traditional leadership and enhance security in the state. The new emirates are:
- Fufore Emirate (second-class status), with its headquarters in Fufore.
- Maiha Emirate (third-class status), with its headquarters in Maiha.
Additionally, five new chiefdoms were established:
- Hoba Chiefdom (second-class status), with headquarters in Hong.
- Madagali Chiefdom (second-class), with headquarters in Gulak.
- Michika Chiefdom (second-class), with headquarters in Michika.
- Gombi Chiefdom (second-class), with headquarters in Gombi.
- Yungur Chiefdom (second-class), with headquarters in Dumne.
Governor Fintiri explained that expanding traditional leadership structures was part of a broader strategy to combat insecurity in the state. Despite improvements in security, including a reduction in herder-farmer conflicts and a decline in criminal activities linked to youth groups like the “Shila Boys,” the governor emphasized that traditional rulers would play a crucial role in complementing the state’s efforts to maintain peace.
Fintiri also thanked the people of Adamawa for their resilience during the economic challenges of 2024 and reiterated his commitment to providing palliative measures to improve their living conditions.
