Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has commiserated with victims of the Bayan-Tasha market inferno that destroyed property worth millions in Damaturu, the state capital.
The disaster occurred in the early hours of Friday.
In a statement released by Mamman Mohammed, his media aide, the governor, described the news as sad and unfortunate.
“I am deeply saddened by this disaster, which affects the means of livelihood for many people and their families.
“Government will look into this huge loss to provide succour to the victims to get back on their feet,” Gov Buni stated.
He, however, assured business operators in the state that, Damaturu, Gashua and Nguru ultra-modern markets will soon be allocated to traders in order to move to a more secure environment.
According to him, the newly commissioned ultra-modern markets were constructed with fireproof technology using burnt bricks to protect goods against fire outbreaks.
The governor called on traders and the people to always take precautionary measures to guard against electrical faults and other possible sources of fire in business environments.
The cause of the inferno has not yet been established, but sources said it might be the result of a wrong electrical connection in some shops.
