Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has revealed that it took him a year of reflection before joining the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2013.

Speaking on Wednesday in Awka, the governor made the revelation while welcoming 15,000 former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently defected to APGA.

Recalling his political journey, Soludo said, “The first party I joined was the PDP, and I was its governorship candidate in the 2010 election in Anambra. During that time, I worked closely with many of you. It took me one year to decide to join APGA in 2013. Though I was disqualified from the governorship race after joining, I remained committed because I believed APGA was my final political destination.”

He described APGA as more than just a political party but a progressive movement deeply rooted in Anambra’s political landscape. “Everyone is equal here, and no one is left behind,” Soludo added.

The governor urged the new members to complete their registration at the ward level and participate in the party’s cooperative scheme aimed at empowering its members.

Earlier, APGA State Chairman Mr Ifeatu Obi-Okoye officially received the new members and praised Governor Soludo for his inclusive leadership style, which he said continues to attract support from across political divides.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former PDP State Chairman Mr Chukwudi Umeaba cited Soludo’s people-focused policies as the reason for their defection.

“We have chosen to collapse the PDP structure into APGA and join the winning team. Our goal is to support Governor Soludo in delivering his vision for Anambra’s development,” Umeaba said.
