Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, asserting that state governments are now receiving more financial resources due to the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Speaking on the anniversary of his second term, Uzodinma stated that while the removal of the subsidy had negative short-term effects, it has ultimately benefited state governments by providing more funds for socio-infrastructure and social services.
He emphasized that these financial gains are a direct result of the federal government’s decision to end the subsidy on fuel.
Uzodinma described the fuel subsidy removal as a “blessing” for the states, noting that it enables state governments to improve their services and infrastructure.
He also pointed out that it is an opportunity for states to demonstrate to citizens that they can effectively utilize the new funds they are receiving.
The fuel subsidy removal, which was announced by President Tinubu during his inauguration in May 2023, has been a significant policy shift in the administration’s economic strategy.
