Governor Nyesom Wike Of Rivers has on Thursday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency address the demands of the people to avoid the country from catching fire.
Wike made this known two days after the Federal government met with South-South Leaders.
The leaders at the meeting said that what the country needs at this time is restructuring as it will address the issues facing Nigeria at the moment.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that lasted almost one hour, Wike also delved into other issues like the over-politicization of governance, especially in the South- South region.
“We must understand in this country that political leadership is very key,”. Having the political will to implement what the people want is very serious.”
“I don’t want to talk about the issue of distrust or no trust in government. People have raised such issues, that they don’t think that nothing will come out of all this dialogue. I don’t agree with that. I believe that if the president does not do, given the opportunities he has now, then, he will be putting Nigeria on fire.”
“The problem is that we play politics in everything,” he said while responding to a question about concerns raised by Deputy Senate President and Niger-Delta lawmaker, Ovie Omo-Agege.
Governor Wike concluded by saying that state policing structures should be implemented.
