Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning that any traditional ruler whose domain experiences recurring violence will be removed from office.

This warning comes amid reports of renewed tensions in Ifon, Erin-Osun, and Ilobu communities. Governor Adeleke, through a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday in Osogbo, emphasized that the government would take strict action to sustain peace in these areas.

The warning follows intelligence reports suggesting that certain faceless groups were planning another wave of attacks in the conflict-prone towns. Governor Adeleke assured that security agencies had heightened surveillance to prevent any further violence and were expediting the interrogation of key figures involved in past clashes.

“In the midst of the Sallah celebrations, I received reports of plans to reignite conflict in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun. Security agencies are on high alert to ensure such attacks do not occur,” the statement read.

The governor reiterated that local leaders who had signed peace agreements would be held accountable if violence resurfaces. He further warned that if the relaxation of the curfew was exploited for renewed attacks, a full 24-hour curfew would be reinstated.

“I will not hesitate to remove any traditional ruler whose community becomes a hotspot for violence again. This is not an empty threat. Royal fathers must ensure their subjects maintain peace. Enough is enough,” Adeleke declared.

The Osun State government had earlier relaxed the indefinite 24-hour curfew imposed on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun in March 2025, following communal clashes that resulted in loss of lives and destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
