Governor Fubara Recognizes Amaewhule-Led Lawmakers After Supreme Court Ruling

Newsie Events:–

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially recognized the 27 State House of Assembly members led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

For over 17 months, Fubara had declared their seats vacant after they defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers, known to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were embroiled in a prolonged legal battle.

Despite multiple interventions, the crisis persisted until the Supreme Court reinstated the lawmakers last Friday.

During their first plenary session on Monday, they gave Fubara a 48-hour deadline to re-submit the 2025 budget, previously passed by three legislators loyal to him.

Amid speculation about whether he would comply, the governor’s administration sent a formal letter to the Amaewhule-led Assembly on Wednesday.

This move confirms his acknowledgment of the lawmakers and his compliance with the Supreme Court’s verdict.
