Hunger Protests: Police Open Fire On Journalists,  Protesters in Abuja Today As It Turns Deadly

Newsie Events:—

The ongoing protests against hunger in Abuja turned violent on Saturday, resulting in one death after police fired live bullets at journalists and protesters near the MKO Abiola Stadium.

The police, acting on “orders from above,” had barricaded the stadium and opened fire, with heavy gunfire audible kilometers away.

The third day of protests saw participants delivering speeches and chanting when a reinforced detachment of police officers charged at the peaceful demonstrators.

As journalists and protesters fled, a Premium Times reporter was targeted, with bullets shattering his car.

The reporter was driving away when police opened fire on the vehicle.

Earlier shootings in other parts of the city resulted in one death and multiple injuries, which Amnesty International has condemned as an excessive use of force.
