The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed that he has no regrets about supporting President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 general elections. Speaking at a thanksgiving service organized by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Wike reiterated his support for the president, emphasizing that he would make the same choice again if given the opportunity.
Wike, who served as the governor of Rivers State for eight years under the PDP, transitioned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) government after his appointment as FCT Minister by President Tinubu. Reflecting on his decision, Wike mentioned the threats he faced for backing Tinubu during the elections but made it clear that he stood by his choice without any regrets.
“I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing,” Wike stated.
The minister also addressed allegations of land grabbing leveled against him in Abuja, dismissing them as unfounded and laughable. He clarified that, as the person in charge of lands in the capital, there was no reason for him to engage in land grabbing.
Wike emphasized that anyone in possession of government land must adhere to the law, or risk having their land revoked. He further acknowledged President Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve at the national level, stating that the experience in Abuja allowed him to deal with issues affecting all Nigerians, as opposed to just his state of Rivers.
He concluded by reiterating his commitment to ensuring that the right thing would be done, regardless of any criticisms or propaganda. “No matter the cry you cry, no matter the propaganda you carry, no matter the names you call me, the right thing must be done,” he affirmed.
