The Ifesowapo Community Landlords Association in Eleta unit C, Eleta Elebu, Oluyole extension Ibadan, Oyo state capital, is addressing pressing local infrastructural issues by taking on the construction of a deteriorated road and the building of an health center.
The association Led by Mr. Jaiyeola, has invested their own funds after 11 years of appealing, seeking and waiting for the government to respond to their request but all efforts met in waterloo.
The association, after their individuals and collective efforts, is now seeking additional supports from the local and state government as their funds is not massive to complete the pressing challenges confronting the community.
Newsieevents community reporter, who visited the road under construction reported that despite their significant personal contributions, the cost of building materials to fix the health care center has risen drastically due to the current economic climate in the country, making it difficult for the community to afford what is needed. This is in addition to constructing the road, which stretches over one kilometer. The association also aims to complete the health center, a project which they started from the foundation, which is supposed to be the responsibility of the local government council.
The community has also engaged the Amotekun security team and local vigilante to enhance their safety.
The association appeals for donations of building materials and financial support to help complete the road and health center projects. They hope that with increase in government involvement and community engagement will lead to better infrastructure and greater participation of the residents especially in the future local elections.
Interacting with Newsieevents, the community project manager, Mr Ilesanmi, expressed frustration about the significant personal expenses incurred to construct a road over a kilometer long, intending to benefit local residents and other road users. Additionally, he highlighted the issue of a community health center, which they started building from it’s foundation but they are yet to finish. The community is now funding its own construction, a situation the manager feels is unjust.
Former association chairman and P.R.O, Engr. Tony Ayodele Olowoyile, has urged the local government chairman and state government to assist either by repairing the road or providing funds to complete the health center. He is also calling on the local and state government for donations of building materials, as high costs due to the economic situation have strained their resources.
