Engr. Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe, the President General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has called on the Ikwere people of Rivers State to rally behind the newly elected Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General, Senator Azuta-Mbata. In a statement, Ezenekwe expressed his satisfaction with the recent Ohanaeze Ndigbo election, which he described as a reflection of collective Igbo unity.
Ezenekwe addressed concerns from some Ikwere indigenes who had criticized Azuta-Mbata’s acceptance of the leadership role. He emphasized that Ikwere remains an integral part of the Igbo nation, urging the community to overcome divisions and foster harmony.
Highlighting the historical significance of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ezenekwe traced its evolution from the 1930s as the Lagos Igbo Union to its current status, underscoring the organization’s deep-rooted values of unity and resilience. He reassured that the ICA would fully support the new Ohanaeze leadership, leveraging its extensive grassroots network across the FCT to help advance the Igbo cause.
Ezenekwe’s message was one of unity, encouraging all Igbo-speaking people to stand together in solidarity, irrespective of their regional origins, to strengthen the Igbo identity and progress.
