The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) through its spokesman, Mr. Femi Akinbiyi on Monday told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN ) in Lagos that INEC has kicked off the training of not less than 9000 Adhoc staff in preparation of the forthcoming bye-election in Lagos East Senatorial and Kosofe Constituency II.
Akinbiyi reiterated the commission’s resolve to conduct a free and credible election.
“We have already trained a set of SPOs (Supervisory Presiding Officers ) before the END SARS issue came up and truncated planning for the bye-elections earlier scheduled for Oct. 31.
“We have however organised a refresher training for these same SPOs at the weekend,” Akinbiyi said.
The INEC spokesman said the ad-hoc staffs commenced a three-day exercise today, Monday for Presiding Officers (POs), Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) collation officers, and returning officers are being held across the five Local Government Areas in the state, Lagos East Senatorial District-Somolu, Kosofe, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe and would end on Wednesday.
Akinbiyi stated all these trainings are geared towards improving the performance of INEC personnel that will be deployed for the forthcoming bye-election.
