In Kano State, 20 chairmanship aspirants have tested positive for various drugs during a screening process for the upcoming local government elections.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) revealed that these candidates, all from the ruling NNPP party, tested positive for substances including opioids, hemp, benzodiazepines, and nicotine.
As of now, no female aspirants have tested positive, but further screenings are expected before the final verification by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC). The elections are scheduled for October 26, 2024, with 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship positions up for grabs.
