After a stiff battle with top National Assembly (NASS) members, Festus Keyamo, the minister of state for labour, has retained the sharing formula for the 774,000 jobs proposed by the federal government.
Keyamo denied claims that he allotted a 40% rise to politicians, He said: “I did not give any instruction on a 40 percent rise for them to implement. We are sticking to the original formula of 15 per cent concession to political officeholders. Contrary to reports that he received instructions from the Presidency to give politicians 40 per cent.”
He said: “I have not received superior instructions from my bosses. The presidency did not give contrary instructions on my role.”
Keyamo assured Nigerians that the ministry is cooperating with the National Directorate of Employment so as “to supervise the preparations for the takeoff of the project all over the country.”
The minister asked Nigerians to exercise patience as he is working to set the ball rolling for this employment scheme.
