In Kogi State, opposition parties have protested against the alleged diversion of sensitive electoral materials by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to the Government House ahead of local government elections. During the protest at KOSIEC’s office, the PDP’s organizing secretary, Ibrahim, demanded the arrest and prosecution of KOSIEC’s chairman, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining the electoral process and promoting corruption.
Ibrahim stated that the diversion of materials prevented many citizens from voting, calling it “disgraceful.” He urged the National Assembly to empower the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to oversee local elections nationwide and requested sanctions against those involved in the alleged fraud. He expressed regret over the opposition’s participation in the elections, citing economic hardships under the APC government and claiming that transparent elections would likely lead to the ruling party’s defeat. Additionally, he criticized the conduct of security agencies in the state.
