In Kokori Community, Delta State, locals have mobilized to expel suspected herdsmen from their farmlands and forests.
The residents accused these herdsmen of causing extensive damage to their crops. In response, the community organized a peaceful protest, chanting solidarity songs and calling for the herdsmen to leave their land. Albert Akpomudjere, a spokesman for the Kokori Council of Chiefs, emphasized the importance of protecting their agricultural income, which supports their families and education.
Despite prior attempts at peaceful negotiations, the community decided to take action to prevent further destruction, informing government and security agencies beforehand.
Local sentiments are positive towards this approach, although efforts to reach a comment from Ethiope-East’s legislative representative, Arthur Akpowowo, were unsuccessful.
