Lagos state traffic management salvage petroleum truck accident at ojota.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in collaboration with other emergency responders, successfully prevented a potentially catastrophic situation following an incident at Ojota where a truck carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) overturned and spilled its contents on Thursday afternoon.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, the truck lost control around 2pm, leading to the spillage of highly flammable PMS on the road. Prompt response from LASTMA officers and other agencies such as the Lagos State Fire Service, LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), police from Alapere Police Station, and NNPC officials ensured that the spilled fuel was contained and any risk of ignition was minimized.

The swift and coordinated efforts included securing the area, cordoning it off to prevent unauthorized access, and deploying specialized equipment to manage the spill. The truck itself was towed away and the affected area thoroughly cleaned to eliminate residual risks.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who was present at the scene, commended the effective collaboration and emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols, particularly when transporting hazardous materials. He underscored LASTMA’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents of Lagos State.

The incident highlights the crucial role of emergency response protocols and the dedication of personnel and partner agencies in averting disasters and maintaining public safety.
