Leadership crisis rock community in Imo state on town union election

The Idume Ogwa community in Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State, is facing a leadership crisis within its town union due to the failure of the current president, Felix Okechukwu Madu, to conduct new elections. Madu’s term ended on August 17, 2024, but no electoral committee has been established to oversee the transition.

Sir D.D. Iwuoha, the immediate past Traditional Prime Minister, has accused Madu of delaying tactics to extend his tenure, which he argues contravenes the town union’s constitution. Madu, however, insists that elections cannot proceed due to the ongoing mourning period for the late Traditional Ruler, HRH. Eze Alban Uzor, who passed away in 2023.

In response to the crisis, Innocent Ikechukwu Ikpamezie, the representative for Mbaitoli Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, has called for a peaceful resolution. He has urged the community’s leaders to adhere to the constitution and respect the mourning period while working towards resolving the leadership dispute.
