Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has announced a ban on unprofiled vehicles in Abuja starting January 2025. This measure aims to enhance security and curb crime, including kidnappings and ‘one-chance’ robberies. All commercial vehicles, including taxis and buses, will need to be profiled by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.
Wike emphasized the initiative at the FCT Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Programme, where he provided new vehicles to beneficiaries at no cost, encouraging them to embrace taxi driving. He stated that all operating vehicles must adhere to specific regulations, including proper security clearance and designated colors, to ensure passenger safety and confidence.
