Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad, a well-known political activist in Northern Nigeria, has expressed concerns that President Bola Tinubu’s administration may use threats and emergency rule to maintain control.
In an interview with Premier Radio in Kano, she alleged that the federal government is deliberately asserting control over certain states to secure Tinubu’s dominance in national politics.
She warned that after intervening in Rivers State, the government might target other states and elected officials, including lawmakers.
Naja’atu identified Kano as a primary target, accusing the administration of attempting to impose emergency rule there.
She claimed the ongoing Kano Emirate dispute has been exaggerated for political reasons, with the federal government allegedly fueling the crisis to justify interference.
According to her, most Kano residents are more concerned with their daily lives than with power struggles over traditional leadership.
“This is exactly what they tried to do in Kano. That’s why there is the Kano Emir, and then there is the Federal Government’s Emir,” she said, questioning who is truly behind the crisis.
She further warned that similar tactics could be used in other states to remove elected officials, including senators, and potentially trigger new elections.
Naja’atu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and resist any attempts to impose emergency rule, cautioning that such measures could undermine democracy across the country.
