The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed that at least 138 members of the National Youth Service Corps have tested positive the Corona Virus.
The Director-General of the NCDC stated this in a national briefing. He also mentioned that those who tested positive were not allowed inside the camp but were rather being managed at home or in a treatment centre depending on the person’s symptom and what state they were in.
He said, “A total of 34,785 corps members of the corps communities have been tested so far in the last week of which only 138 came back positive, which is 0.4% prevalence and 1 in 200 people.”
With talks between striking university teachers and the Federal Government’s progress getting more positive, he said the next challenge will be how to work with education stakeholders to ensure the safe reopening of universities.
Ihekweazu said, “Universities are slightly riskier and present unique challenges but we are confident that we can address this as we have done on other sectors like the aviation sector.”
