The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has urged youths in Imo State to take responsibility for the peace and development of the Niger Delta region. During the International Youth Day seminar, NDDC’s Imo representative Kyrian Uchegbu emphasized the need for youths to engage constructively with leaders, critique government policies, and develop the necessary skills for a brighter future. Uchegbu stressed that sustainable development is an inclusive process where everyone, including youths, plays a key role.

Dr. Orji, an educationist, discussed the importance of spreading awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and using technology and innovation to create opportunities for entrepreneurship and reduce youth restiveness. He called on the government to improve infrastructure and support technological advancements in education to empower the region’s youth.

One participant, Fedelix Uchendu, expressed disappointment with the lack of visible development in oil-rich communities, noting that NDDC’s presence in terms of infrastructural and human development is not felt. He emphasized that empowering youths with the right tools and opportunities is essential to transforming the region into one of peace and progress.

The message from the seminar suggests that with the right investment in education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment, the Niger Delta could shift from a region marked by agitation to one of sustainable growth and peace.
