Nigerian citizens in Lebanon reluctant to return home amid conflict between Israel, Hezbollah – FG

By Divine Sam

The Nigerian government is expressing concern over the reluctance of its citizens in Lebanon to return home amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe noted that only about 500 out of over 2,000 Nigerians in Lebanon have registered for evacuation. Despite ongoing persuasion from the embassy, many individuals remain hesitant to leave.

The government has activated emergency protocols to ensure the safety of its citizens, collaborating with various agencies for a smooth evacuation process. The embassy has advised Nigerians to stay indoors and follow local authorities’ guidance, while also urging those who haven’t registered for evacuation to do so promptly.

No Nigerian lives have been reported lost in the conflict so far, and arrangements are being made for flights to facilitate evacuation from Beirut, where many have relocated from southern Lebanon, the conflict’s epicenter. The Nigerian government appreciates the international community’s support and continues to monitor the situation closely.
