The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) Rivers State chapter, as part of their activities to marked the 2023 world safety day paid a courtesy visit to the rivers state road safety corps sector commander Mr. Galadunci in his office. The delegation led by the rivers state chapter chairman Engr. John C. Onyemenam told the sector commander in his speech that its mission is to seek ways of collaborating with the agency for improvement of standard safety practices in Rivers State, he gave instances of such areas of collaboration that can bring the much needed results for drivers in the state; he said the use of billboard with strong safety messages will help to pass the points to drivers, he also suggested visiting motor parks to training and enlighten the commercial vehicle drivers on safe driving practices.
He went further to inform the sector commander of programs the institution had carried out in a bid to stop unsafe work practices, he highlighted the institution’s visit to some motor parks in the state, where the drivers were engaged about safe driving and sharing of stickers with safety messages was shared on most of the vehicles at the park, he also talked about visiting saw mills and construction sites to encourage workers to always put on personal protective equipment (PPE) while working.
The Chairman Engr. John Onyemenam praised the effort of the road safety official in the state as the institution has keenly observed and seen their relentless effort around the state and encouraged them to keep it up.
Responding to the visitors, the sector commander S.U Galadunci, FISPoN thanked the delegates of (NISafetyE) Rivers State excos led by its state chairman Engr. John C. Onyemenam for paying the agency a visit to chat a new way forward towards stopping the unsafe vehicular practices in Rivers State. Galadunci reinstated the importance of safety and the commitment of the agency under his administration in River State to reduce every anti-safety activity to zero and specially thanked the (NISafetyE) once again for their continuous supports to enhance the improvement of safety practice precisely in the metropolis.
The FRSC boss in the state pointed out some obstacles and major challenges confronting the flexibility of safety practice by the agency, he used the medium to shower praises on the (NISafetyE) for their gesture and programs which according to him makes their jobs easier. He promised to partner with the organization at all times to curb the unsafe vehicular practices among drivers in Rivers State.
The high point of the visit was donation of some safety literature materials to the FRSC library with assurance to donate more and installation of the sector commander as one of the patrons of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) in Rivers states; the visit ended with a photo session, as both organizations pledged to work together to achieve their common goal and improve safety practices in the state.
