Anamere George, a 26-year-old Nigerian man, was detained and cocaine was confiscated at his residence in Phuket, Thailand, for allegedly overstaying his visa by four years.
Anamere was apprehended about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023, on the road to the Baan Suan Loch Palm housing development in Kathu district, according to Phuket Immigration police commander Pol Col Thanes Sukchai.
At 1:15pm, Phuket Provincial Police received a report from Cherng Police of a guy driving a grey Mazda 2 recklessly, impacting other cars as he made his way along the busy route past the Cherng Talay Police Station.
Similar reports were shortly issued by Phuket Immigration and Phuket Tourist Police officials.
The grey Mazda 2 was seen driving towards Baan Pasak and Baan Don in Moo 4, Thepkrasattri, before exiting at the Khao Lan Intersection on Thepkrasattri Rd in Srisoonthorn.
The man then drove south to the Heroines Monument, left towards Pa Khlok, performed a U-turn, and returned to the Heroines Monument before proceeding to Wat Tha Ruea.
The man then took back roads to Koh Kaew before turning onto the road beyond the golf course towards Kathu.
Kathu When police set up a roadblock at the Loch Palm Golf Course, the man stopped, turned around, and sped away. The cops gave chase.
A little farther up the road, the man lost control of his automobile, which became stuck in a small roadside ditch.
The individual in the automobile attempted to flee on foot, but police apprehended him 300 meters later. Anamere George was his given name.
His passport had expired just before the Covid-19 pandemic four years previously.
According to authorities, a search of his criminal record revealed that he had sold cocaine in Cherng Talay, Kamala, and Patong.
Police discovered at least eight little pouches of cocaine during a search of Ananare’s home in Moo 4, Bang Jo, Srisoonthorn.
Officers also discovered many keys to other people’s homes. Ananare was taken to Cherng Talay Police Station for questioning and restitution for damage he caused to other people’s cars while escaping police.
Police did not say whether Ananare was tested to see if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest.
Anamere was accused with overstaying his visa and unlawful narcotics possession and would be deported after legal proceedings, according to Pol. Col Sukchai.
Thanes stated that the crackdown on overstayers began last month and would continue this month with the assistance of tourist police.
