The Oyo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has firmly rejected claims from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that a group of its members defected to the PDP in Oluyole Local Government Area. According to the SDP, the alleged defections, supposedly led by one Mr. Olusina Ogunsola, are not true.
They clarified that Ogunsola is not a member of the party, and the individuals mentioned in the PDP’s announcement had already left the party before the 2023 general election.
The SDP leadership in Oluyole emphasized that the party remains strong and intact in the local government area, urging the PDP to stop spreading what they consider to be misinformation. They also criticized Ogunsola for making false claims about leading members to the PDP, suggesting that he lacks knowledge of the local political dynamics and may be influenced by political opportunists.
The party’s statement serves as a call for the public to disregard the alleged defections and reassures supporters of the SDP’s unity in the area.
It’s an interesting example of the tensions and maneuvering that occur in the political landscape, especially around elections. Do you think these kinds of public disputes between political parties are more common around election periods?
