The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed strong support for Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, backing his opposition to the proposed Tax Reform Bills. During a courtesy visit to Ndume, Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the National Coordinator of CNG, outlined their commitment to assisting the senator in challenging the bills, which they believe threaten the livelihood of millions in Northern Nigeria.
Charanchi emphasized the group’s efforts to raise awareness through town hall meetings, encouraging constituents to contact their representatives and demand rejection of the bills. He criticized lawmakers who might support the reforms for personal gain, warning that any Northern legislator who backs the bills would be treated as an enemy of the people.
The CNG has strongly condemned the perceived external influences, particularly from organizations like the World Bank, which they believe are driving the tax reforms. Charanchi urged Northern lawmakers to prioritize the interests of their constituents, asserting that betrayal of the people would result in severe political consequences. He stated that any lawmaker who aligns with what he called “oppressive” tax reforms would be subject to collective censure and political ostracism.
