The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has reported that 22 bodies have been recovered following a tragic boat mishap that occurred between Baro and Akwanu communities in the Agaie local government area of Niger State. The incident took place on the night of November 28, 2024, around 2:00 am, when the boat, carrying nearly 50 passengers from Ebe Community in Kogi State, capsized while en route to Katcha market.
As of the latest updates, eight people have been rescued alive. The majority of the recovered bodies, 18 in total, are from Kogi State, while four are from the Akwanu community in Agaie. Search and rescue efforts, involving local divers and volunteers, are still ongoing in hopes of locating more survivors.
